Emergency Resuscitation Training for Dental Practices

Emergency Resuscitation Training for Dental Practices (4hr)

FAIB Approved – Approval certificate number 150

The Course

Cardiorespiratory arrest is rare in primary dental practice. There is a public expectation that dental practitioners and all other dental care professionals should be competent in treating cardiorespiratory arrest. Primary dental care providers, general dental practitioners and all other dental healthcare professionals should undergo training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) including basic airway management and the use of an AED. Each primary dental care facility should have a plan for summoning assistance in the event of a cardiorespiratory arrest. For most practices, this will mean calling 999 immediately. There should be regular practice and teaching using simulation-based cardiorespiratory arrest scenarios and Dental staff’s knowledge and skills in resuscitation should be updated at least annually.

This 4-hour course meets Quality Standard C for CPR practice training for primary dental care as laid out by the BDA & British Resuscitation Council which should be updated annually

Dentists and other dental professionals will be trained to: Recognise cardiorespiratory arrest and Anaphylaxis
Summon help immediately (dial 999), Start CPR, provide ventilation with a pocket mask or bag-mask device, attempt defibrillation (if appropriate) within 3 minutes using an AED. Dental professionals who work with children will learn the differences in CPR for children.

The course structure includes plenty of practical sessions working on Adult, child and baby manakins. There will be lots of opportunities for participants to try their skills and build confidence. There will be a question and answer session, and an opportunity to go over anything that needs refreshing.

Course Certification

To complete the course there is summative and formative assessment. If successful, each candidate will be awarded a certificate of attendance which is valid for 1 year.
