Emergency First Aid at Work - Appointed Person Course
Length - 1 day
This course would enable staff to be trained up to the level of an Appointed Person, i.e., be able to take responsibility for the First Aid in an emergency at work, and to maintain the first aid kit and record books, in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines. It can be tailored to meet the most likely first-aid requirements of individual workplaces, but will cover certain key areas. The list below gives an example of the sort of topics covered on the one day course. The course objective is that by the end of the day all students will be able to recognise potential emergency situations, and know how to deal with them. (It's a "what it looks like, and what to do" training day).
- Assessment and prioritisation of the scene/patient
- CPR
- Recovery position
- Care of the unconscious patient (to include medical conditions like diabetes and asthma, as well as anaphylactic shock, strokes, epilepsy, fainting, and heart conditions).
- Choking, adult and child
- Head Injuries
- Bleeding
- Fractures
- Burns
- Shock
- Moving Casualties
- First Aid Kit essentials
Course Certification
At the end of the day, all candidates will receive an Emergency First Aid Certificate, valid for 3 years. There is no formal assessment at the end of this course. We hope that all clients will take the opportunity to learn as much as possible and take an active part in the day. Again there will be plenty of opportunity to practice CPR skills.
