HSE Approved First Aid at Work Training Course

Devon First Aid HSE Approval no: 53/08

Length: 3 days

This is an in-depth course, aimed at providing employees with the skills, knowledge and confidence to deal effectively with a wide range of possible First Aid /emergency situations at work. The course can be modified to meet particular needs within specific working environments, but will cover a range of subjects, such as those listed below:
  • Initial assessment (of the scene and the patient/s)
  • Care of the Unconscious patient
  • Spinal Trauma
  • Breathing Disorders
  • CPR
  • Choking
  • Circulatory system/Cardiac problems
  • Wounds and Bleeding
  • Shock
  • Fits
  • Fractures, and extremity injuries
  • Head Injuries
  • Burns and Scalds
  • Poisons
  • Eye Injuries
  • Maintaining records
  • Maintaining and stocking First Aid Kits

The course structure includes plenty of practical sessions, and there are lots of opportunities for participants to try their skills and build their confidence. At the end of each day there will be a question and answer session, and an opportunity to go over anything that needs refreshing. In October 2009 this was changed from a 4-day to a 3-day course, and all successful candidates should then have an annual update of Basic Life Support Skills (see HSE Flow chart on next page).

Course Certification
At the end of the course, there will be a formal assessment by external HSE approved assessors.
Upon successful completion of the course and assessment, each candidate will be awarded a First Aid at Work certificate, and will be qualified to the level of First Aider at Work, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety First Aid regulations. This certificate is valid for 3 years.

Price
£1150 for the course, for a group of up to 12 candidates
Please contact Helen directly for prices if you have a smaller group of less than 6 candidates, or for prices for individual clients
